Specialties Spotlight – PE with Coach T.
This month, students practiced The Pacer as part of their warm-up activities in PE. “The PACER Test, or Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run, is an aerobic capacity test used by FitnessGram…it is a 20-meter shuttle run, where students run back and forth as many times as they can between two markers, [following] an audio [recording] to guide their pace.” For the remainder of class, students work on striking a ball with an implement in the realm of Tennis. Students have a racket and ball (or bean bag to start) and focus on balancing the ball while practicing locomotors such as walking, hopping, and skipping. Students also practice to see how many times they can bounce the ball with control on the tennis racket. In some classes, students have a partner across from them and try to tap the ball with the racket into a hula hoop between them so that it stays in the hoop, rather than rolling out.
