Sunset View Elementary School

Hooray for Friday! It’s the day you get to learn more about the fantastic staff members we have working at Sunset View Elementary! This year we will continue to take each Friday to introduce members of our Sunset View family.

Today, we are introducing our school administration – Mr. Chilcoat, Mrs. Parker, and Mr. Vandermark.

Mr. Chilcoat is our Principal. He is from Mesa, Arizona but has lived in Utah for 32 years! He and his wife have been married for 29 years! Together, they have three children – Samantha, Autumn, and Dallas – and one granddaughter – Marjorie. This is Principal Chilcoat’s seventh year at Sunset View and his 25th year overall working in education. Principal Chilcoat’s favorite snacks are ice cream and brownies. The one food that he could eat forever and not get tired of is buffalo wings – they are his favorite! His favorite memory from when he was in elementary school is when he was learning the alphabet in kindergarten. At the end of the year, each student had to dress up like something that represented their letter. Principal Chilcoat was the letter ‘D’ and dressed up like a donut! The last show that Principal Chilcoat binge-watched was Wicked Tuna.

Mrs. Parker is our Facilitator. She is from Texas but has been in Utah for 26 years (mostly down in Blanding). She and her husband have been married for 33 years. Together, they have 5 amazing daughters…and seven fur grandbabies! This is Mrs. Parker’s 15th year working in schools. Mrs. Parker’s go-to snack is popcorn and sour skittles. The one food that she could eat forever and never get sick of is quesadillas with sun-dried tomatoes and guacamole…or Red Tacos from Red Tacos…or Avacado Brioche toast from TruReligion – she has lots of favorites! Mrs. Parker’s favorite memory from elementary school was with her 5th-grade teacher, Mrs. Legge. Her teacher taught them songs and played the guitar with them. This teacher wore bell bottoms and leather sandals. She had her students memorize the classical artists of 40 great artworks and had ‘picture memory’ contests to quiz them on it. They read ‘Where the Red Fern Grows’ together and all cried together when the book was over. Mrs. Legge made school memorable for Mrs. Parker. the last show that Mrs. Parker binge-watched was “The Good Doctor.”

Mr. Vandermark is our Title I Coordinator. He is from Santa Clarita, California (before Drew Barrymore and the zombies took over in The Santa Clarita Diet) but has lived in Utah for the past 18 years. He has 7 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, 4 nieces, and 4 nephews. Mr. Vandermark has been working in education for the past 15 years – all of which have been at Sunset View! Mr. Vandermark’s favorite snack is microwave popcorn topped with Tapatio hot sauce and the Kraft parmesan cheese in the green bottle. Don’t hate on it until you’ve tried it – it will change your life! The one food that he could eat forever and not get tired of is tacos! There are so many taco variations that can be made! His favorite memory from when he was in elementary school is when fourth grade. His teacher would have a ‘secret stash’ of hairspray in her closet in the classroom to touch-up her hair after recess (it was the 90s and big hair was a thing). One day he and his friends all took their mother’s hairspray bottles to school to ‘attack’ their teacher with hairspray. It was an epic battle! The last shows that Mr. Vandermark binge-watched are Primal and The Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

Parker. El último programa que vio la Sra. Parker fue “The Good Doctor”.
