Provo City School District

Sunset View Elementary School

We are very excited to be participating in Battle of the Books again this year! Students were thrilled to find out that the whole event will take place in person this year so that family and friends will be able to attend.

If you are not familiar with the program, students are divided into teams and will work together to read 20 books given on a program booklist. The school library has several copies of each book on the list for students to take turns reading. They can also check them out from the Provo City Library, Orem library, or online. We are excited to offer our own ebook and audiobook formats this year through student’s SORA accounts. Students may read these books in any format – online or physical books – as well as listen to them as an audiobook. Students have already signed up to join teams and should be working with their classmates to divide and read the books on the booklist before battles begin in January.

Teams will compete against one another to answer questions about the books and earn points until we have one 3rd/4th-grade team and one 5th/6th-grade team for the school. Those two teams will then compete against other elementary schools in a district-wide competition, held at Provo High School in April. This program is so much fun and students at any reading level can participate because the books range from picture books to harder chapter books. Students get excited and involved in the competition and it helps a lot with their reading comprehension – as they have to understand the material in the books to answer battle questions correctly. We hope that you will support and encourage your students to participate in this fun program again this year!

If you have any questions about the program please reach out to Mrs. Hunt and she will happily answer them for you!

Especialidades destacadas – Biblioteca con la Sra. Hunt
