Sunset View Elementary School

The Sunset View Kindness Club just completed a fundraiser for Ukrainian refugees. The Kindness Club helped plan this event and wanted 100% of the money to be donated to help refugees from Ukraine. The fundraiser was done in the style of “Penny Wars” but the Kindness Club thought “Pennies For Peace” was a more appropriate name for the cause. The fundraiser was a grade-level competition where the winners would earn a pizza party! Altogether, the school raised over 2,400 dollars through the Pennies for Peace fundraiser! The plan is to send the money to Lifting Hands International, a group that has people on the ground in Romania right now, directly helping refugees.

While Second Grade students ended up winning the week-long event, all students were very excited and eager to participate each day. It drew huge crowds in the mornings where we set out the jars each day. Chants erupted, cheering for their grade and cheers rang out when money fell into the jars. Many students recognized that while pizza is fun, all the donations were going to help those in need. It was so fun to see so many students passionate about something bigger than themselves. It was kindness in action!
