Sunset View Elementary School

Miss Baker and her sister, the Student Government teacher at Timpview High School, came up with the idea of having fourth-grade students at Sunset view work with students at Timpview High School in a collaborative writing process. Miss Baker’s fourth-grade students would have the experience of coming up with a story centered around the idea of why we have rules, and to imagine the world without that particular rule. Students were asked to come up with a creative representation of those two worlds. Her students worked for a few weeks writing rough drafts and editing them. Then, their class sent their stories over and the Timpview students, working along with Miss Baker’s sister, worked on producing the stories into movies. It helped our fourth-grade students see the difference between what they wrote or thought in their head to what others gathered from the writing, hopefully helping them learn how to become better writers. It was a very fun experience and we are so glad that Miss Baker and her sister were creative enough to pull it off!
