Specialties Spotlight – Library with Mrs. Hunt
Students have been participating in a unit on folklore during their visits to the library this month. They discussed how folklore consists of different types of stories that have been passed on orally from generation to generation. Each week, students studied a different type of folklore: folk tales, fairy tales, legends, myths, tall tales, and fables. To learn about fables students enjoyed reading the story of The Tortoise and the Hare and then participating in their own tortoise and the hare race. After discussing the elements of a fairy tale, students practiced making their own fractured fairytales and reading different versions of fairytales from around the world. In preparation for the upcoming break students have been learning about holiday traditions around the world by reading traditional folk tales from those countries. They have been filling suitcases with information about how holidays around the world are celebrated and are excited to take them home!
