Homework Policy
Homework is left to the discretion of each teacher. For more information about the requirements for your child’s grade, please contact their classroom teacher. However, Sunset View encourages each child to engage in reading every night. Reading is a fantastic opportunity for guardians and their student to hold meaningful discussions about the topics they are reading about. Families should practice applying comprehension strategies to the texts as they read together or independently. Guardians can ask questions about the main idea and details, problem and solution and talk about inferences that can be made.
Nightly Reading Goals:
- K – 15 minutes
- 1st – 15 minutes
- 2nd – 15 minutes
- 3rd – 20 minutes
- 4th – 20 minutes
- 5th – 20 minutes
- 6th – 20 minutes
We also would encourage families to talk daily about their child’s learning targets in reading, math and science. A learning target is what the student is expected to know and be able to do at the end of the lesson. Sunset View encourages students to take ownership of their learning and know each learning target and whether they achieved the goal each day.
