Each week we will be sharing a tip from our school psychologist, Mrs. Rollins.

Let’s Establish Some Healthy Habits:

What kind of mindset do you have when forming habits?

Are you the All or Nothing type or the Some Over None type?

All or Nothing: This type of person is good at commitment. When they do something, they go all in or they are able to completely abstain. For example, if starting a new workout routine, they need to do the workout every day to keep their momentum going. Or if trying to lessen a behavior like eating desserts, they have to avoid sweets for a certain time and pick other times like the weekend or a fun trip to go all out and eat whatever they want.

Some Over None: this type of person is good at self-control and can allow themselves a little bit. Getting rid of something entirely like desserts can make them feel deprived, so they can resolve to eat smaller portions. Starting into a big exercise routine could feel overwhelming, so they build the habit gradually with one workout once a week and then increasing to another added day of workout the next week until a daily habit is formed.

Knowing these things about yourself or your students can help you build good routines and shape student behavior in the classroom.

Cada semana compartiremos un consejo de nuestra psicóloga escolar, la Sra. Rollins.

Establezcamos algunos hábitos saludables:

¿Qué tipo de mentalidad tienes al formar hábitos?

¿Eres del tipo Todo o Nada o del tipo Algo sobre nada?

Todo o nada: este tipo de persona es buena para el compromiso. Cuando hacen algo, van con todo o pueden abstenerse por completo. Por ejemplo, si comienza una nueva rutina de ejercicios, debe hacer el entrenamiento todos los días para mantener el impulso. O si intentan disminuir un comportamiento cómo comer postres, tienen que evitar los dulces durante un tiempo determinado y elegir otros momentos como el fin de semana o un viaje divertido para salir y comer lo que quieran.

Algo sobre nada: este tipo de persona es buena en el autocontrol y puede permitirse un poco. Deshacerse de algo completamente parecido a los postres puede hacer que se sientan privados, por lo que pueden decidir comer porciones más pequeñas. Comenzar con una gran rutina de ejercicios puede resultar abrumador, por lo que desarrollan el hábito gradualmente con un entrenamiento una vez a la semana y luego aumentan a otro día adicional de entrenamiento la semana siguiente hasta que se forme un hábito diario.

Saber estas cosas sobre usted o sus estudiantes puede ayudarlos a desarrollar buenas rutinas y moldear el comportamiento de los estudiantes en el salón.
