Sunset View Elementary School

It has been great to see the students interact in PE with the new school year! Students were reminded of rules and procedures while being active with locomotor movements. They also focused on team building activities including:

  • Builders and Bulldozers where half the class tries to keep cones standing (building), and the other half tries to knock them down (bulldozing). Between each round, cones are counted to see which half was more successful at working together.
  • Relays that use zig-zag movement, strategy, and passing an object. Students worked together to get more successful on every attempt as a team.
  • Hula Hut Relay where students build a “hula hut”, take turns making their way through it, then transport it to the finish line to be placed over a cone. The huts are tricky to keep together and require a lot of working together and communication.
  • Parachute activities where students needed to listen carefully to instructions to reach a common goal of having the mushroom shape fly when everyone let go at the same time.

*Each week students have activity challenges they can do on their own or with family/friends when not at school. For September, the challenges to choose from include: playing outside 30 minutes a day at least 5 days a week, juggling a soccer ball with their feet, kicking back and forth with a partner, taking shots at a designated goal . . . all great options to be active outside!
