Each week we will be sharing a tip from our school psychologist, Mrs. Rollins.

Summer Mental Health

For some kids they cannot wait for summer, doing nothing, and sleeping in. For some of our students, the lack of structure or access to peers can be tough on their mental health. Here are a few ideas with embedded links to ideas that can help our students stay mentally healthy.

Create a predictable schedule by having consistent bedtimes and wake-ups, having an activity for specific days to look forward to, and coordinating play dates with friends.

Take part in fun free summer activities.

Enjoy time outside and soak up some vitamin D. Vitamin D is vital to your mental health and is absorbed through getting outside and playing. Some screen time can be good to mix it up, but there are literally 100 things your kids could do outside.

Find balance by planning with your kids to have times for big activities/trips, small outdoor activities at home, some screen time, board games, reading, cooking together, watching movies together, and some time to do nothing.

Happy Summer Everyone!
